Last night’s American League Wildcard matchup was everything we expected it to be and more, with one of the most exciting first innings to date accounting for six total runs on three homeruns. Ervin Santana blew a 3-0 lead after Luis Severino was pulled in the first inning, and the wheels immediately fell off for Minnesota and the under. Tonight’s matchup looks to be a bit more balanced, despite Zack Greinke pitching at home against the less superior Jon Gray. Let’s get into the details for tonight’s game:
Team Odds: ARI -180, COL +160
Total: o/u 8.5
Location: Chase Field
Thoughts & Predictions: The Colorado Rockies come into this game with high hopes, as Jon Gray has seen success against the Diamondbacks multiple times in 2017. Zack Greinke has been no slouch against the latter as well, however it’s worth noting that Colorado did manage to go 5-5 at Chase Field this season. Despite this, Trevor Story and DJ LeMahieu were the only Rockies regulars to bat over .240 in road games against Arizona. Home teams are now just 4-7 in eleven Wildcard games dating back to 2012 and the only National League team to advance at home was the 2013 Pittsburgh Pirates. All things considered, I like the true ace in Greinke to deliver a big time performance in leading his team into the NLDS. Unlike last night’s contest, I think this one should stick to the classic postseason script and remain low-scoring throughout. With that being said, I’m all in on Diamondbacks ML -180 and u8.5.
